The Market of Iquitos - only for people with strong stomachs

Iquitos

Iquitos is located on the Amazon River, that begins at that point already to split into several, so the Amazon does not look so spectacular in that area. Since our time is short, we focus only on some highlights, which also include the market. Belem, it means the market of Iquitos, has an upper and a lower district. Actually, it is said that it also has a range where are sold the illegal catches like wild parrots, monkeys and more. We couldn't found it. But the section of the food was impressive enough. Namely pretty much everything that is conceivable gets eaten, legal or not ....

And now enjoy your meal and the pictures!

First of all, the rather mundane:

Environment of the market (right)
Fruits, vegetables and herbs (left)

Tobacco and cigarettes are processed right here:

Cure seems possible with many things:

Bark of trees, tinctures, bones, skulls, powders -
whatever your heart desires, the jungle is a large medicine cabinet.

For example, on the right side are next to coconuts also a tortoise shell and a few bones

Bottles promise everything from the power increasing "male potency" up to cancer therapies. In general the former is a big issue, obviously being "non-able" means for men to be a strong influence in their self-image  and conduct.

Miscellaneous hangs here, which should not hang here
:

The jaguar skin left is illegally, of course, the animal is threatened with extinction. When interviewing, the dealer will probably say it had been stranded on the river or some other nonsense.

On the right: A snake skin of an anaconda. To my knowledge legal.

Then various appetites:

Dried fish

Fresh meat and fish

miscellaneous meat, which we could not assign to a body part.

Here, very edifying:

Left side: turtle meat, of course illegal, but no one cares.

Right side: once more seafood species of the Amazon river.

(In the evening we are eating for a change exquisite - you can also get crocodile meat, no problem)

Finally, again what was edifying
:

Cane sugar, in blocks on the left here
and Roots on the right

And I almost forgot: Quail eggs:

On the right: The lower part of Belem here is near the water, so the houses stand on stilts
